Fact; North Lanarkshire Council are about to have a small Archimedes Screw Type Hydro Station built at the top out fall from Strathclyde Loch.
Fact; Until Kemp Meikle of the R.C.F.M.T.Ltd raised an objection this project was destined to go ahead.
Fact; No provision had been made for the safe passage of migratory fish in and out of the loch as is required by law.
Fact; Joe Quigley secretary of U.C.A.P.A.Ltd insisted that their 'chairman' had been involved at all stages of the planning.
Fact; The chairman of U.C.A.P.A. Ltd is a Senior Ranger with North Lanarkshire Council and as far as we are aware was advising them. How embarrasing it must have been when they found out that if the planning had gone ahead they would have broken the law.
What are U.C.A.P.A.Ltd trying to do stop the spread of salmon? the South Calder was historically a salmon spawning tributary and if all the weirs are addressed it could be one again.
One would have thought that the chairman of an association which makes thousands of pounds from salmon permit sales would want as many salmon in the system as possible and would be doing everything in their power to open up rivers. The opposite is the case here as can clearly be seen from this fiasco and that of the S.E.P.A. Gauging Station on the River Nethan. Either they do not know the legislation in relation to Fish pass and Screens or the they are showing utter contempt for the law by ignoring it.
Fact; It was after the Gauging Station on the River Nethan was raised at the meeting of the R.C.F.M.T.ltd then the objection re the Archimedes Screw on the grounds of no safe fish passage that the trouble at the R.C.F.M.T.Ltd began.
It is our belief that Kemp Miekle and Roddy Finnie were singled out because a certain 'chairman' must have got his arse booted by his employers and it all smacks of revenge now.
Fact; The Biologist for the Clyde River Foundation even stated that it should be screened top and bottom and well left alone. What kind of attitude is this, we should be doing all that we can to save this endangered species not screening them out. We will shortly post the e mails to back this post up.
The Clyde Exposed
We are a concerned group of anglers who fish the River Clyde and are shocked at the way the fishings in some areas are managed or should we say not managed. Poaching is a major problem yet anything we report seems to fall on deaf ears. The Crown Estates who own most of the salmon fishings have failed the River Clyde by allowing some of their tennents such as the Avon Angling Club (AAC) and the United Clyde Angling Protective Association Ltd(U.C.A.P.A.Ltd) to control the salmon lease but yet break the terms and conditions of said lease namely failing to prevent poaching. Over the next few weeks we the 'Grass Carp' will attempt to expose all of the nonesense that has gone on and which we feel has held a great river from becoming a premier salmon fishery. We will demonstrate how the Crown Estates and the Scottish Executive have sat on the fence and allowed one angling association to bully others. We will direct you to various web sites where evidence of the underhand tactics of U.C.A.P.A.Ltd This site is dedicated to all of the anglers who care but who are not listened to, perhaps now that everything is being made public those in charge might get off the proverbial fence and do the job they are paid to do!!!! We ask that anyone with any evidence of poaching or failure of an association to protect the fish please let us know and we will petition those who should be doing something about it and request written replies.

how come its always grasscarp that has to tell the anglers whats happening on the system and does the biologist sit on the ucapa commitee
Well done again the guys behind grass-carp. I as an angler was blissfully unaware that any of this nonsense was going on. Is Tom McGregor living in the same world as us. It is balatantly obvious why all the bickering is going on as it all seems to originate from U.C.A.P.A.Ltd
grass-carp has brought a new light to the way some of the comittees are being run thank god all dont carry on this way or the salmon would do a u turn and go somewhere else i think the trust is a joke
I fish UCAPA waters and have had 17 fish last season... not bad!!!
Notice that last angler who caught 17 fish didn't mention if he had killed them all or not.I heard that a guy form Lesmahagow had got 17 from U.C.A.P.A's water might be him. I also heard that an angler on Mid Clyde caught 37 fish for his season some of them were sea trout but all his went back. Shows the Clyde has had a good run this year poachers probably had a field day too.
Hi Lads,
Sorry for failing to state that the 17 fish i caught, all went back- I am vegetarian-- the last fish I ate was back in 1987!!
Have gave up meat, wife is also vege and wants me to give up fishing ...Nae chance!!
Again it has been the best year for salmon for years, even had some sea trout at night!
Nice to see so many fish being caught and returned. The Crown estates must be laughing up their sleeves as I am led to believe that each fish caught whether returned alive or not has a rateable value. So if the fish caught on Mid Clyde were returned perhaps the UCAPA angler caught one or more of the same fish and also returned them the Crown Estates Office will be paid twice
for the same fish some conservation incentive eh??? Think the fish are rated around £50.00p each over a 5 year catch average. Clubs should only be rated on fish killed if we are to ensure better conservation methods. If every fish caught on Mid Clyde are killed there will be no fish or very few for UCAPA anglers. It is attitudes like the Crown Estates that lead to anglers not sending in returns therefore the overall true picture of the amount of fish caught will never be known.
